International Forum "From crisis to proposal" analyzed defense and security policies

The Foundation for the Integration and Development of Latin America (FIDAL), in coordination with the Presidency of the National Assembly, organized the International Forum “From crisis to proposal: the role of the Legislative Power in the creation of a defense and security policy ”, On Thursday June 21 at 9:00 am in the National Assembly.

This meeting was constituted as a space for discussion to analyze the new challenges faced by governments in their fight against drug trafficking, narco-terrorism and organized crime. Several lessons learned from the experience of countries such as Colombia, Spain and the United States were presented, which facilitated the analysis of cooperation channels.

The international experts who participated are Stephen Donehoo, former military intelligence officer and specialist in national security and defense; Eduardo Madina, a former deputy in the Spanish Congress, who played an important role in the negotiations to end the violence caused by the ETA group, and Alejandro Arbeláez, former deputy defense minister of Colombia and an expert in political management on security issues.

In the International Forum, the representatives of Ecuador were Elizabeth Cabezas, president of the National Assembly; Oswaldo Jarrín, Minister of Defense, and Rosalía Arteaga Serrano, President of FIDAL.
